BYOD argument

At our school we are thinking about having BYOD. Here is my argument:

BYOD at NCS

Do you think we should have BYOD at NCS? I am half in half because although there could be positive effects there are quite a few negatives that we should consider the side-effects of.

Firstly, if you had your own device at school, it could improve your attitude towards learning e.g once you have finished typing, you can play sumdog.

Although we should consider that if the average class has 30 children, and they each have their own device, plus 6 school devices, with people printing from computers and writing on ipads and playing on phones, then there would be heaps of radiation, and radiation never goes away. It is like an apple, you can keep on halving it, but it will never disappear completely, no matter how small the piece left is.

Even though devices may be used for rewards, children may take advantage of them and when the teacher isn’t looking sneak onto games before they have finished, and then switch back to their work when the teacher is looking, or pretend they have finished their work when they haven’t really.

So although there could be positive outcomes, I think there are more negative effects than positive, and i don’t think we should have BYOD at NCS because people may take advantage of the rewards, and there would be too much radiation. This is my argument against BYOD.

What do you think?
